Only twice I've gotten the chance to try and match decor at a party and I LOVE IT! For some reason it gives me more confidence that the client will like the cake. It's so much more fun to see that the finished product is a matchy matchy and I love love love matchy matchy =]

First Wedding & Grooms Cake!!!
On Sunday I delivered my first wedding cake. Three tiers (12",9", & 6") of white almond, with butter cream, covered in white fondant, with swiss dots of butter cream, fondant draping and blue flowers.
This cake had a ton of firsts for me, this the first time I've done a 3 tier cake, so I had to put dowels in the first and second layers to support the weight. First time doing fondant drapping, and believe it or not the first time I put butter cream on the outside of a cake. Most people start of decorating with butter cream, but I started with fondant. So far I'm not a fan of the butter cream.
Now that I was all professional can I complain about those flowers now? I could not find a cutter the size/shape I wanted so I had to hand cut every single one of the 148 flowers on the cake. It took about 5 mins per flower that's, 12 hours of flower making. But it was well worth it because the bride loved it and I was totally happy with the results. =]
I also made my first Grooms cake this Sunday. One tier, three layers of french vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream. The cake board was covered with "ford blue" matched blue fondant mixed by my WONDERFUL husband! He is always such a big help but this weekend he was SOOOOOOO helpful, since I was incredibly sick it was extra appreciated. Anyway, the cake was first covered in white fondant, then I cut a piece of blue the size of the top of the cake, a band of blue was added to the bottom of the cake, and a band of white was added around the top, and was painted silver using silver pearl dust, by my wonderfully helpful sister-in-law Erin. Erin also painted the Ford logo that I had cut out the night before.
All in all I thought it was a great weekend of successful cake making =]
